The following features only work if Shopify keeps track of your inventory.
If you do not use Shopify to track your inventory, we highly recommend keeping these features off. If Shopify does keep track of your inventory, we highly recommend turning these great features on!
*Note: Shopify can sometimes incorrectly send us inventory data and over-ordering restrictions for products they do not track inventory for. If you only track inventory on some of your products then we recommend keeping these features off.
Shopify tracks my inventory
If Shopify keeps track of your inventory, enable this checkbox to use the following features:
On the Quick Order Form: Enabling this will use a product’s inventory settings to limit the quantity a user can enter on the Quick Order Form. If a product does not allow customers to purchase when out of stock they will not be allowed to enter a quantity higher than the amount of inventory remaining for the product. If they enter an amount greater than the inventory remaining they will see a warning message alerting them to the amount of inventory available.
For the following product settings a customer would only be able to add 28 of the product to the cart.
Typing more than 28 into the quantity field on the Quick Order Form will alert the user that only 28 units are available:
In the Cart: automatic adjustments will be made to item quantities in the cart to prevent a wholesale customer from ordering an out of stock item. If for example they added 30 of the above product to the cart they would see a message that only 28 are available and the item’s quantity in the cart will be automatically changed to 28.
Enable Ship Partial Option
If a customer has out-of-stock items in their cart and you have selected Allow customers to purchase this product when it's out of stock, the customer can choose whether they want their order shipped complete, or as available. This message appears in the cart if there are backordered items:
Their choice will be added to the notes section of their order:
enable Backordered/out of stock messages
If a customer has out-of-stock items in their cart and you have selected "Allow customers to purchase this product when it's out of stock" in the Shopify admin, enabling the Backordered Message will place backordered notifications on the Quick Order Form and in the Cart. There will also be a link in the Ship Partial option on the cart page (if enabled) for customers to view a list of backordered items in their cart.
On the Quick Order Form for example:
Display estimated ship date with Shopify transfers: If you use Shopify Transfers feature and have set an Expected Arrival Date for the product, all backordered messages will have the product's expected ship date included. Learn more about transfers.
Can I only allow wholesale customers to purchase out of stock items? Unfortunately Shopify will not allow us to set separate inventory policies for wholesale and retail customers. Only the current inventory policies of the product can be used.
